Re-Fashioning Casa Bardicci as a Public Feature at Pennsic War

Introduction: Casa Bardicci has long been a cultural beacon at Pennsic War, known for its faithful recreation of a 15th-century Venetian villa. This unique venue has offered attendees immersive experiences, transporting them back to a time of artistic flourishing and cultural richness. However, its role as an encampment has limited access to the broader Pennsic community. To enhance its impact and ensure its continued presence at Pennsic, we propose re-fashioning Casa Bardicci as a publicly accessible feature on the deck that was specifically built to serve as its foundation.

Objective:
To transform Casa Bardicci from a private encampment into a publicly accessible cultural feature at Pennsic War, ensuring that it remains a permanent fixture of the event, enriching the experience for all attendees.

Proposal Outline:

  1. Location and Structure:
    • Casa Bardicci will be erected on the existing deck that was specifically created as its foundation.
    • The structure will be set up before the beginning of each Pennsic War and taken down at the event's conclusion, ensuring minimal disruption to the event’s schedule and site layout.
    • The villa will be stored securely in a custom-designed trailer during the off-season, ensuring its preservation and facilitating easy transport and assembly.by
      Public Access:
    • The re-fashioned Casa Bardicci will be open to all Pennsic attendees, functioning as a cultural hub where everyone can enjoy its offerings without the restrictions of an encampment.
    • The villa will feature daily programming, including live music performances, theatrical productions, poetry readings, and art exhibitions. These events will be scheduled to allow maximum participation from the community.
  2. Artistic and Cultural Programming:
    • Casa Bardicci will continue its tradition of supporting artists and musicians, providing them with a prestigious platform to showcase their work to a broader audience.
    • Workshops and demonstrations related to Renaissance arts and crafts will be offered, inviting attendees to engage with the historical and cultural aspects of the period.
    • Special events, such as evening concerts or themed Renaissance banquets, could be hosted to draw larger crowds and create memorable experiences.
  3. Sustainability and Maintenance:
    • The villa's construction will use durable materials designed to withstand annual assembly and disassembly, ensuring that it remains in excellent condition year after year.
    • A dedicated team of volunteers, possibly including skilled tradespeople from the Pennsic community, will be trained to handle the setup and teardown processes, ensuring efficiency and safety.
  4. Funding and Support:
    • To fund this transformation, we propose the continuation and expansion of Casa Bardicci’s commemorative coin program, with designs that celebrate each year’s unique contributions to Pennsic.
    • Additional funding could be sought through sponsorships from merchants, donations from attendees, and potentially a small admission fee for special events or workshops.
    • A "Friends of Casa Bardicci" program could be established, offering memberships that include perks such as early access to events, reserved seating, or exclusive content.
  5. Community Engagement:
    • The re-fashioned Casa Bardicci will be positioned as a community-driven project, with regular updates and calls for input from the Pennsic community.
    • Public forums or roundtable discussions could be held annually to gather feedback and ideas for future programming, ensuring that Casa Bardicci remains relevant and beloved by all.

Conclusion: By transforming Casa Bardicci into a publicly accessible cultural feature at Pennsic War, we can preserve its legacy while expanding its impact. This proposal ensures that the villa will continue to inspire, educate, and entertain Pennsic attendees for years to come. With the support of the community and careful planning, Casa Bardicci can thrive as a symbol of the arts and a cherished part of the Pennsic experience.

We invite the Pennsic community and interested parties to join us in this exciting endeavor, helping to shape the future of Casa Bardicci as a vibrant, public cultural hub.
